Der Tod wird kommen (La Mort Viendra)
Christoph Hochhäusler
A murder, a revenge mission, a web of intrigue and violence – elements used by Christoph Hochhäusler to stage an icy neo-noir thriller. At the center of Der Tod wird kommen is Tez, a contract killer with razor-sharp instincts, who is tasked with solving the murder of a courier. Her client is the terminally ill gangster boss Mahr, who is fighting against his own decline - and against rivals who have long been orchestrating their succession. The deeper Tez digs, the more she realizes: Mahr is playing both sides. As she herself becomes prey, the hunted a confusing power game unfolds in the streets of Brussels.
Hochhäusler delivers a pure genre film - shot in French language for the first time, with a brilliant cast, true to style, without a social superstructure. Through dark alleys, empty industrial yards and cool glass facades, he turns the shady bars and elegant loft apartments of the Belgian capital into a stage for a deadly game of chess. The narrative remains as enigmatic as it is relentless and always leaves the audience in guessing.
